The All-Electric Chevy eCopo Camaro Concept
Here at Zeigler Chevrolet in Schaumberg we sell some incredible new Chevy vehicles that are renowned for their performance. One such model is the Chevy Camaro, which has been impressing drivers on and off the track for decades now. An electric concept made its debut last year and now it’s heading to the auction block, but could this one-off model end up inspiring other all-electric Camaro models in the future?
The Chevrolet eCopo Camaro Concept showed what this classic muscle car could do with some electric power. It was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first COPO Camaro and unveiled at SEMA 2018. It was supposed to demonstrate the potential of an electric racing vehicle.
This concept was the first GM model to use an 800-volt battery pack, made up of four different 200-volt packs, each weighing about 175 pounds. They had to be placed in the car strategically for the best possible weight distribution. An electric motor that produces 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque gives the Chevrolet eCopo Camaro Concept its speed and power. With the right equipment, green cars don’t have to be boring. The concept was able to run the quarter-mile in just over 9.5 seconds at a top speed of over 140 miles per hour. Also, it can do wheelies. Not necessarily a function you need, but a very cool addition to a unique electric concept.
The Chevrolet eCopo Camaro will be auctioned off in California this month, but we’re wondering if this all-electric muscle car could affect how the Chevy Camaro is built in the future. The Chevy brand has proven that green car tech and performance can go together and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a greener version of this iconic sports car in the near future.
